FAQs

What qualifications do I need to become an Assessor?

The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement is the nationally recognised qualification for anyone wanting to be an Assessor.  It is a generic qualification which covers all occupations.

Who is the Assessor course aimed at?

The Assessor course is aimed at people who assess others in either work and/or training environments.  It covers how to plan, prepare, conduct and gather evidence for assessment using a range of assessment methods.

What are the Course Entry Requirements?

There are no entry or qualification requirements for the Assessor course.  We do, however, recommend that the online training route is best-suited to people with some experience of assessment.

What is the structure of this qualification?

The Level 3 Assessor Certificate comprises 3 units of competence:

  1. Understand principles and practice
  2. Assess occupational competence in the work environment
  3. Assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding

All 3 units are mandatory.

What do I have to do to get qualified?

  • 1 day training course
  • 4 practical assessments – the first assessment takes place on the training course day.
  • Gather evidence for your Portfolio of Evidence (with our personal support as required).

How is the Course Assessed?

You are assessed on the basis of a Portfolio of Evidence.  You will be allocated an Assessor who will support you through the process of gathering evidence for your portfolio.

How Long Does it Take to Get Qualified?

If getting qualified is a priority for you, it is possible to be certificated 3 weeks after you’ve completed the 1 day training course.

Who Awards the Certificates?

Your certificate is awarded by NCFE, a nationally-recognised Awarding Body for the Assessor, IQA and Trainer qualifications.

What does the course cost include?

The cost includes all pre-course preparation and materials, training, Awarding Body (NCFE) registration fee, Centre admin fee, portfolio, personal on-going support & guidance through to qualification, and certification.

DO YOU OFFER FLEXIBLE PAYMENT TERMS?

Yes, we offer flexible payment terms.  You can get started on any of our courses for just £90 and then pay regular amounts or the full balance later.  Any outstanding balance is payable prior to the issue of your certificate.

Are there other Assessor Qualifications?

There are 3 other Assessor qualifications:

  1.  A theory-only qualification
  2. A 2-unit award which covers assessing in a work environment only
  3. A 2-unit award which covers assessing in a training environment only

We recommend the Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (the 3-unit qualification) because it covers all of the above and will equip you to assess in different environments and using a wide range of assessment methods.  However, if you wish to pursue one of the above, please contact us for further details.

WHAT OUR CHILDCARE CLIENTS SAY

Juniper Training

“Brilliant company – ATDirect! I have recently completed my first online CAVA course with them and it was a good experience.

Initially I was a bit nervous but my tutor Kevin has been so patient and understanding. He definitely knows his stuff and provides great support with communication throughout. Feedback given on either on assignments or on Assessment activities was always fair and balanced.
This course not only built my confidence but helped me to get a job as a Childcare Skills Tutor!!
I would highly recommend ATDirect and I’ll always be grateful for helping me achieve my CAVA qualification.”

“Swift identified very early on that the best assessors come from those directly in the sector, the ones with the current hands on experience. We then needed to find a company to train our trainers, this needed to be a company that was flexible and supportive, this is where we found Kevin and ATDirect.

Over the last 7 years Swift has used the support of ATDirect to achieve several assessor and IQA qualifications. The key to a life long learning journey is to ensure the programme and delivery is individualised and supportive, this is something Swift firmly believe in, and clearly ATDirect and Kevin, share this view and ethos.

With the initial training from ATDirect, we have seen assessors develop personally and professionally, with some of our staff becoming lead IQAs, curriculum leads, and department managers. Myself, I started off as someone fresh out of the sector, with no assessing experience. In a three year working period, I trained with Kevin to become an assessor and IQA, I am now the Academy Director of Swift, and I truly do feel that Kevin and ATDirect played a very significant part and cemented my foundations in the apprenticeship sector.”

“I would like to thank ATDirect for their excellent training and support.  The friendliness and flexibility of my assessor/trainer was invaluable as he was able to fit in with my needs and requirements. I thoroughly enjoyed the training as it was very relaxed and extremely informative.  I was put at ease during the assessment which enabled me to complete an excellent one.  I completed my portfolio within a few weeks and with no difficulties as the on-going support was fantastic.  Since completing the Assessor qualification I have recently been shortlisted from 20+ candidates to the last 6 for an Assessor position which again ATDirect gave me continued support even after achieving the qualification.”
