FAQs

Who are the IQA courses aimed at?

The IQA Award (1-unit, knowledge-only)

This course is aimed at managers and staff who want to gain an understanding of internal quality assurance rather than practise as an IQA – it is a ‘theory-only’ introduction to internal quality assurance.

The IQA Award (2 units, for Practitioners)

This course is aimed at people practising (or wanting to practise) as an Internal Quality Assurer.

The IQA Certificate (3 units, for Lead IQAs)

This course is aimed at Lead IQAs who manage other IQAs.

What are the course entry requirements?

There are no qualification entry requirements for the IQA courses.

For the 2-Unit qualification, you will need to be able to observe 2 Assessors to gather the necessary evidence.

For the Lead IQA qualification, you will need to be in the role of Lead or Deputy Lead IQA and so managing other IQAs, to gather the necessary evidence.

If you are not already working with Assessors or IQAs, you can still do the single-Unit ‘knowledge only’ qualification.

What is the structure of each IQA qualification?

Level 4 Award in Understanding the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (1 Unit, ‘knowledge only’)

Comprises 1 mandatory unit of competence:

  1. Understand the principles and practice of internally assuring the quality of assessment

L4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (2 Units, for Practitioners)

Comprises 2 mandatory units of competence:

  1. Understand the principles and practice of internally assuring the quality of assessment
  2. Internally assure the quality of assessment

L4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (3 Units, for Lead IQAs)

Comprises 3 mandatory units of competence:

  1. Understand the principles and practice of internally assuring the quality of assessment
  2. Internally assure the quality of assessment
  3. Plan, allocate and monitor work in own area of responsibility

What support do I receive from ATDirect?

Our training is delivered by real people in real time, so you can interact with your trainer and ask questions.  This means training is more relevant and interesting, and can be adapted to your individual needs as you progress through the course … and is much more enjoyable!  Your trainer also acts as your Assessor and will support you throughout the process through to certification.

How is the IQA course assessed?

You are assessed on the basis of a Portfolio of Evidence and a short, informal end-of-course discussion.  Your Assessor will support you in gathering evidence for your Portfolio and will conduct the end-of-course discussion.

How long does it take to get qualified?

The pace of training is self-determined.  If getting qualified is a priority for you, it is possible to complete all the work necessary in a few weeks.

We encourage all our clients to complete their qualification quickly while training is fresh in the mind and to avoid ‘drift’.  However, if speed is not your priority, you have up to 1 year to complete the work before your registration expires.

Who awards the certificates?

ATDirect works with 2 Awarding Bodies:  NCFE and SFJ, both nationally-recognised Awarding Bodies for the Assessor, IQA and Trainer qualifications and accredited by Ofqual.

What does the course cost include?

The cost includes all pre-course preparation and materials, training, Awarding Body (NCFEor SfJ) registration fee (for 1 year), Centre administration fee, portfolio, personal on-going support & guidance through to qualification, and certification.

Do you offer flexible payment terms?

Yes, we offer flexible payment terms.  You can get started on any of our courses for just £150 and then pay regular amounts or the full balance later.  Any outstanding balance is payable prior to the issue of your certificate.

"Kevin and the team are excellent to work with. They are very helpful and supportive. They built my confidence that I could complete the course and gave very clear and concise guidance where needed. I would highly recommend AtDirect and look forward to working with them again.

Positif Care - Residential Care for Children

"I would highly recommend ATDirect, and in particular Steve Mortimore, for anyone undertaking their IQA Level 4 qualification. Steve’s support throughout my qualification was outstanding from start to finish. The guidance provided was clear, structured, and always aligned with real-world IQA practice, not just the theory. Steve has an excellent ability to explain complex requirements in a practical and reassuring way, which made the process far more manageable and confidence‑building. Feedback was detailed, constructive, and genuinely supportive, helping me fully understand what was required to meet the standard rather than simply “pass”. The professionalism, knowledge, and approachability shown by Steve…read more

SGN - gas distribution company

"Kevin of ATDirect ran an incredibly engaging and useful CPD session for my team of in-house SGN technical trainers and I. We are a group of just over a dozen occupational assessors and amongst our ranks we have IQAs who manage various Gas Industry related NVQ schemes. It had been a while since my team and I had any assessing and IQA CPD and the session Kevin ran hit the spot exactly. Many thanks for all the detailed effort which made the course 100% beneficial for my team. A great use of our time!"

Swift Childcare

"Swift identified very early on that the best assessors come from those directly in the sector, the ones with the current hands on experience. We then needed to find a company to train our trainers, this needed to be a company that was flexible and supportive, this is where we found Kevin and ATDirect. Over the last 7 years Swift has used the support of ATDirect to achieve several assessor and IQA qualifications. The key to a life long learning journey is to ensure the programme and delivery is individualised and supportive, this is something Swift firmly believe in,…read more

“I have undertaken a number of qualifications with AT Direct Ltd around assessments and quality assurance processes whilst working for the NYA Academy and have thoroughly enjoyed all of them. Staff members were not only approachable and excellent communicators but they took time to understand my work setting within youth work training. This enabled me to engage with the courses in a much more bespoke way that embedded my learning within my own practice and to assess and quality assure learners work and submissions in a much more effective way.”
